Rope Rescue Operations

This course is designed for all emergency response personnel who may be required to perform operations at high angle rescue incidents. Aligned with the job performance requirements outlined in NFPA 1006: Standard for Technical Rescue Personnel Professional Qualifications, this program provides the foundational knowledge and practical skills necessary for progression into Rope Rescue Technician level training. Instruction includes identification and application of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), equipment familiarization, rope construction, and equipment care and maintenance. Students will be required to demonstrate competency in hazard recognition, equipment selection and use, and the operational procedures essential to safely and effectively support, coordinate, and perform technical rescue functions in a high angle environment as defined by NFPA 1006. Core skill areas include rescue knots, patient packaging, anchor system construction, mechanical advantage systems, belay techniques, rappelling, and lowering/raising system operations. Both written and practical evaluations will be administered at the conclusion of the course to verify students meet the applicable NFPA 1006 job performance requirements.
