This introductory course provides law enforcement officers with the foundational knowledge, skills, and safety principles required to begin training with their agency’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) or Tactical Response Team. Students will learn about team structure and mission types, basic tactical movement, entry principles, warrant-service considerations, breaching fundamentals, tactical vehicle operations, and introductory hostage-rescue concepts.

The course emphasizes decision-making, communication, safety priorities, and teamwork during high-risk operations. Hands-on learning includes scenario-based exercises, controlled-movement drills, mechanical breaching familiarization, the Noise flash Diversionary Device, an overview of less-lethal munitions, tactical emergency casualty care, and use-of-force in a close-quarters environment. Completion of this course prepares officers for agency-level SWAT selection processes and advanced tiered operator training; it does not certify officers as fully deployable SWAT operators.

Requirements:
  • Sworn law enforcement officer
  • Official endorsement/sponsorship from employing agency
  • Familiarity with department firearms and safety procedure
  • One year of patrol experience preferred
