« back to classes page
While there is increased use of silencers for law enforcement and civilian use, these items still seem like a taboo topic with very limited how-to information available from a reputable source. This class helps to demystify silencers as the history of silencers, the various types, designs, materials, and styles of silencers will be discussed. Also, the process for selecting a silencer, purchasing processes and paperwork, mounting, and cleaning and preventative maintenance procedures are presented. The class then transitions to the range where silenced and unsilenced firearm audio testing will be performed using an ANSI approved Class 1 sound meter capable of accurately measuring the high impulse sounds from firearms. Students are encouraged to bring a firearm, silencer, and ammunition as audio testing of their silencer and firearm will be available as time permits. Range demonstrations will also display some of the common types of silencer/firearm malfunctions and problems that can occur with certain firearm/ silencer combinations.
