This course is designed for fire departments, law enforcement agencies, EMS services and other rescue organizations that have the potential for ice rescue incidents within their service areas. Topics will include recognizing the hazards associated with ice rescue incidents, proper personal protective equipment (PPE) for ice rescues, ice characteristics, hypothermia, cold-water-near-drowning, and the rescue sequence.Students will learn the correct procedures for tending rescuers and other shore-based tasks. Students will also learn and practice various forms of ice rescue. Rescue techniques will be practiced an mock resues will be performed by all students in an ice-covered water area. after successful completion of the class, the student will be able to function as a member of an ice rescue team, be able to evaluate the need for ice rescue and perform both shore-based and in-water rescues.
