This training is mandated by state statute for new jail personnel. The course consists of 19 major units of instruction: Academy Orientation Admit and Release, Correctional Law, Jail and Health Care, Introduction to Corrections, Jail Officer Wellness, Maintain Jail Security, Professional Communication Skills, POSC (Principles of Subject Control), Prepare Reports, CPR w AED, Ethics and Ethical Decision Making, Fire Safety, Inmate Supervision and Behavior Control, Investigations, Jail Hostage Response, POSC Phase 2, Suicide Prevention, Supervision of Special Needs/Crisis Intervention. The course is 200 hours of intensive instruction. Special Requirements for civilian applicants: (1) possess high school diploma or equivalent; (2) pass qualifying medical exam within six training application packet; (4) successfully complete Jail Officer Interview months prior to training; (3) submit completed Jail Officer.
